For the third year in a row, the U.S. solar industry installed double-digit gigawatts (GW) of solar PV capacity, with 10.6 GW coming online in 2018, according to the latest statistics from Wood Mackenzie Power & Renewables and the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA). [...]
In 2018, 43 GW of new PV installation capacity was added to the grid in China, a decline of 18 percent from the prior year. Accumulated PV installed capacity surpassed 170 GW. Of the total, 20 GW were distributed PV, up 5 percent. Some 23 GW were centralized PV, down 31 percent. The country’s PV sector showed dramatic growth in electricity production last year. The curtailment rate of PV power systems declined from a double-digit number to around 3 percent. [...]
Global funding for clean-energy projects sagged in 2018 after China’s decision to curb subsidies dragged down installations in the world’s biggest solar market. [...]
On Thursday, Wood Mackenzie Power & Renewables and the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) reported results of their analysis of U.S. solar installations in the third quarter of 2018. While large-scale solar installations fell, the residential market continued to stabilize after falling in 2017, said the analysts. Overall, they said they expect 2018 growth to be flat. [...]
Non-hydro renewable energy sources (i.e., biofuels, biomass, geothermal, solar, wind) set new U.S. records for both production and consumption in the first half of 2018, according to a SUN DAY Campaign analysis of data just released by the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA). [...]

Total corporate funding (including venture capital funding, public market, and debt financing) into the solar sector in Q2 2018 rose 12.5 percent quarter-over-quarter to $2.8 billion from the $2.5 billion raised in Q1 2018, according to a report by Mercom Capital. [...]
Solar in the United States is still going strong despite headwinds put forth by the current administration. Why is that? [...]
A new report from SEIA found that the U.S. installed 2.5 gigawatts (GW) of solar PV capacity in Q1 2018 to reach 55.9 gigawatts (GW) of total installed capacity, enough to power 10.7 million American homes. This represents a 13% increase year-over-year. Total installed U.S. PV capacity is expected to more than double over the next five years, and by 2023, over 14 GW of PV capacity will be installed annually.
