Natel Energy announced a $20 million funding round, led by Breakthrough Energy Ventures (BEV) and supported by Chevron Technology Ventures, to build momentum in deploying its flagship product, the Restoration Hydro Turbine (RHT).
“As more solar and wind power solutions are deployed, the role of hydropower will become increasingly important due to its inherent reliability, flexibility, and ability to integrate other renewables onto the grid,” said Carmichael Roberts, BEV. “Natel’s Rest [...]
U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) goal to reduce the cost of grid-scale, long-duration energy storage (of which pumped storage hydro is the largest source) by 90% within the decade.
The second target within DOE’s Energy Earthshot Initiative, “Long Duration Storage Shot” sets goals to accelerate breakthroughs that store clean electricity to make it available anytime, anywhere and support more abundant, affordable and [...]
New York Governor Andrew M. Cuomo this week announced that New York plans to explore the potential role of green hydrogen as part of the state’s comprehensive decarbonization strategy.
To support this effort to study green hydrogen and its possible applications, the state is collaborating with the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), joining two hydrogen-focused organizations to inform state decision-making and making $12.5 million in funding available for long duration energy s [...]
Two new Michigan solar projects are now operational and delivering up to 40 MW of carbon free power to the region.
National Grid Renewables announced work was completed at Bingham Solar and Temperance Solar, both part of the company’s MiSolar Portfolio. National Grid Renewables owns both projects, which will generate under power purchase agreements with utility Consumers Energy.
The developer kept the construction work as local as possible. Michigan-based contractor J. Ranck Electric han [...]
According to a press release issued by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), a deceptively simple sensor system that the lab developed can prevent dangerous conditions from developing in outdoor battery cabinets.
Supported by DOE’s Office of Electricity, the invention, called IntelliVent, is designed to be installed in cabinet-style battery enclosures, which are becoming common for stationary grid energy storage, said PNNL.
IntelliVent responds t [...]
Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) this week announced plans to build four new solar power plants this year that are expected to begin powering customers in early 2020: [...]
San Francisco, Calif. — In an effort to recognize the up and coming rock stars of the solar industry, Renewable Energy World is pleased to announce its first “class” of 40 under 40 changemakers in the solar industry. [...]
LG Electronics announced plans for a new solar module assembly plant in Huntsville, Ala. The new factory will create about 160 new full-time jobs, increasing LG's Huntsville employment by 60 percent to more than 400 workers. [...]
When solar analysts talk about the solar coaster, they aren’t kidding. News on November 16 that U.S. thin-film solar module manufacturer First Solar was planning to lay off a significant portion of its workforce, cancel its series 5 module production line and restructure the company hit the industry hard, especially since the news came just one week after the U.S. presidential election in which Trump was elected.
But it’s important to remember that while the news did coincide with the news t [...]
