This week, Hawaiian Electric said that it is seeking public input on a strategy to increase rooftop solar and similar customer-sited energy resources. The utility said it needs customers to host renewables to help it reach the state’s clean energy benchmarks.
The company has filed “Customer Energy Resources for Hawai‘i; A Customer-First CER Strategy for a 100% Clean Energy Future” with the Public Utilities Commission. A link to the document is below.

Moon Dog Brewing, an independent Australian craft brewery based out of Melbourne, is exploring ways to reduce its carbon footprint and drive environmental sustainability.
To this end, the Moon Dog team selected Energis, a residential and commercial energy solutions company, to design a solar system that would reduce their reliance on using energy from the grid and lower their energy costs. Energis designed, installed and commissioned a 99.85 kW rooftop mounted solar system utilising 317 solar [...]
A year ago, Tesla Inc. lost its throne as king of the U.S. rooftop solar business to Sunrun Inc. Now, it may get relegated to third place. [...]
In New York, and cities around the world, extreme weather events have become the new norm. Even six years later as we prepare for the L train shutdown for storm-related repairs, we’re still seeing the effects of Hurricane Sandy, which knocked out power to more than eight million households. [...]

Did you know there are alternatives to standard silicon solar panels? Or that someday soon, you might be able install a solar panel that is 50 percent more efficient than the average silicon PV solar panel? [...]
A recent story in the New York Times raised new attention to the role of the Edison Electric Institute (EEI) in pushing policies hostile to distributed solar. [...]
The solar industry is one of our most obvious success stories. Our industry directly employs 261,000 people. We generate energy that is both clean and renewable. And we generate this energy at prices that are less than conventional utility power — as low as 6 cents per kwh. [...]
Everyone makes mistakes — and I’ve certainly made my share of them. On this week’s Energy Show on Renewable Energy World we will discuss in detail some of the most common homeowner and installer mistakes that I’ve seen over the past 15+ years — as well as the actions we can take to do things right the first time. [...]
At the center of our solar system, approximately 92.96 million miles away, is a nuclear power plant capable of powering the entire globe. We know it by its most common name: our sun. [...]
Every year I gaze into my solar crystal ball and make ten educated guesses about the rooftop solar industry. Last year I was pretty lucky, getting 9 out of 10 right. [...]
Solar power in America is on a roll. Over the last decade, the cost of solar installations in the U.S. has fallen by more than 70 percent, and every year has had more solar installed than the last.Since 2010, the nation’s solar power capacity has grown fifteen-fold. And employment in the U.S. solar industry recently surpassed 200,000 people – that’s more than the oil and gas extraction industry, and three times more than the coal-mining industry. It’s really just the beginning though. To [...]
